What is the ResearchWorks Archive?

The ResearchWorks Archive is a permanent, safe service for providing access to articles, technical reports, datasets, images and other file types produced at the University of Washington by faculty and Researchers.  The Archive enables University of Washington researchers and academic units to make their scholarly materials accessible to the world, at a stable URL, with the assurance the materials will be maintained into the future.

Is this Archive the same as the University Archives?

No. As stated on the University Archives page http://www.lib.washington.edu/specialcoll/collections/uarchives/ "The University Archives is the University's corporate memory within a scholarly research context. It exists to help meet the University of Washington's legal responsibility to preserve and make available its records in accordance with applicable State and Federal Laws and to assist the University Community document its actions and decisions consistent with its mission."

While there may certainly be some overlap, the ResearchWorks Archive is interested in grey literature such as technical reports and working papers, unpublished manuscripts, author versions of journal articles [if permitted by the publisher] and other artifacts of research at the University. To determine whether your publisher allows self-archiving, visit Sherpa/Romeo.

Who may deposit their scholarly materials into the Archive?

Faculty, researchers and students of the University of Washington may deposit materials. Student materials that are acceptable for the archive include honors theses, dissertations and theses produced as part of a graduate program and other high quality research activities. Researchers may place their works in the Archive provided they have secured permission from the rights-holder.

The Libraries also provides assistance to the upload process through the mediated submission form. This service allows authors to fill in a minimal amount of information about their article. The ResearchWorks team will respond with instructions for submitting the files. We will add the items to the Archive for you.
